Born out of a passion for organizing unstructured information with artificial intelligence, Impira helps companies of all sizes search for any image, document, product, or related data—so that teams can focus on meaningful work.
For decades, tools like databases and spreadsheets have enabled us to organize digital information and do more than just stare at it. Whether it's filtering down to a few rows in a massive spreadsheet, breaking down orders per region and vendor, or analyzing which parts of your website are driving the most engagement, data can be an incredibly impactful force when it is neatly structured and easy to use.
Unfortunately, only about 10% of the world's data is formatted in this way. The remainder exists as images, videos, documents, and other kinds of unstructured information that can be easily consumed by a human but is almost impossible to use in software. Imagine trying to count the total number of pictures of a particular person in a folder. Or looking at a collection of invoices to calculate how much was spent on a project. Today, you're stuck doing these tasks manually in your head or compiling all this information into a spreadsheet if you need to do more advanced calculations.
This is what inspired me to found Impira. We started as a small team with decades of experience in relational databases, artificial intelligence, and product design and challenged ourselves to develop a system that could ask questions about unstructured information. To keep ourselves focused, we concentrated on documents—images, videos, PDFs, presentations, and so forth—because of their rapidly growing significance and the fact that they are often in key business processes such as selling a product or paying for a service.
We started by talking to prospective customers in a wide range of industries: e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, insurance, financial services, automotive, and more. We quickly learned that most companies either store documents in file sharing services or in legacy software solutions such as traditional Digital Asset Management (DAM) or Product Information Management (PIM) systems. In either scenario, there is a significant amount of manual work required to organize, find, and analyze these assets.
This is especially true in industries like E-commerce and Consumer Goods, where business users often spend hours of precious time each day manually tagging visuals or digging through folder after folder to find documents containing specific vendors, brands, and price points. For many highly creative people, searching through folders and building spreadsheets continues to consume countless hours each day. We saw an important opportunity to give back time to people to focus on truly meaningful work.
In response, we started developing our product with a simple motto: as easy to use as a folder, but as powerful as a database. Most of our customers use our product alongside tools like Dropbox, Box, and Google Drive. With just a few clicks, you can connect any folder you want into the Impira platform, and our software will automatically extract key information from the underlying documents, instantly providing search, analytics, and a rich API to power many different use cases. The more you use our product, the more we learn about your data, allowing us to improve our inference and query capabilities.
Within a year of starting the company, we started accumulating innovative customers like Stitch Fix and Goop, and have since expanded our footprint from small companies to Fortune 100 enterprises. Our customers frequently submit valuable product feedback that has materialized into key product features, including several AI models, automated product data distribution, and our analytics dashboard. As we continue growing rapidly, we are excited to engage more people in the Impira community and are constantly working to make our product easier to use and more accessible.
In a short 2 years, we've attracted some incredible customers, assembled a capable and diverse team, and secured over $32m in funding from Tier-1 investors. But we are only just beginning. We have an incredibly busy few years ahead of us, as we continue to build the product, our team, and overall company to deliver on our vision. We feel successful when we enable people to be creative and make a meaningful impact. And we see our role in this as helping them automate away the parts of their jobs that feel repetitive, manual, and unnecessary for them to do.
If this resonates with you, then we'd love to be in touch. Whether you want to use our product, join our team, or get to know us, we would love to speak with you. Please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and connect with us on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
